Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior surfaces: Reads work order or receives instructions from supervisor or homeowner regarding painting. Spreads dropcloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces, such as baseboards, door frames, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting. Paints surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers.
Performs any combination of following duties on projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability to work with or without close supervision. Performs variety of tasks involving dextrous use of hands and tools such as keeping the premises of office building, apartment house, or other commercial or institutional building in clean and orderly condition. Work is usually performed with other workers.
Plans drywall installations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Reads blueprints and other specifications to determine method of installation, work procedures, and material, tool, and work aid requirements. Measures, fits and fastens board into specified position on wall, using screws, handtools, portable power tools, or adhesive. Cuts openings into board for electrical outlets, vents, or fixtures, using keyhole saw or other cutting tools. Fills cracks and holes in walls and ceiling with sealing compound.

Cleans carptet with cleaning solutions on clients premises, using handbrushes or carpet cleaning machine, determining cleaning method according to condition of the carpet: Vacuums carpet to remove loose dirt. Guides carpet cleaning machine over carpet surface or sprays carpet with cleaning solution under pressure to agitate nap and loosen embedded dirt. Removes excess suds and water from the carpet during scrubbing operation. Identifies persistent stains and selects spotting agent to remove stain according to type of fiber, dye, and stain.
Lays carpet and rugs: Studies floor sketches to determine area to be carpeted and amount of material needed to complete job. Moves furniture from area to be carpeted and removes old carpet and padding. Installs carpet on some floors using adhesive, following prescribed method. Cuts carpet padding to size and installs padding, following prescribed method. Nails tack strips around area to be carpeted or uses old strips to attach edges of new carpet. Stretches carpet to ensure smooth surface and presses carpet in place over tack strips.

Responsible for installing and maintaining the electrical components in an HVAC system, including all electrical wiring and controls. These are mostly heating and air conditioning systems, but also include ventilation, refrigeration or other climate-control systems. Other duties include inspections and tests on HVAC systems as necessary, determining if any repairs are needed and replaces worn or defective parts. Must be able to read blueprints and technical diagrams. Must also be knowledgeable of state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code.
